MURARE Car Rental scooped three awards at the second edition of prestigious Local Legends Awards held in Harare recently. The company emerged the winner in the Small to Enterprise of the Year and Auto, Transport and Logistics categories and was the second runner up in the Risk Management category. It was further awarded a certificate that recognised it’s transition from being a small enterprise to a medium sized enterprise since its formation in 2016. The awards, hosted by the Small and Medium Enterprises (SME) Association of Zimbabwe recognises heroic efforts made by entrepreneurs in forming and growing their businesses. Murare Car Rental shook off stiff competition to emerge as the winner in the three categories.

Speaking at the awards, the company’s director Mercy Zingoni said she was honoured to receive the awards on behalf of the company. “It is such an honour to receive these prestigious awards. It is very humbling to realise the support we have received since entering the market five years ago. Getting this recognition is an indication that hard work and dedication pays. “When we started this company, I never imagined we will be getting honoured so early, so these awards serve as a testimony of how far we have come as a company in the few years we have been in the car rental business.” “They are also a validation that we are headed in the right direction as Murare Car Rental as we strive to meet the demands of the market,” Zingoni said.

Established in 2016, Murare Car Rental employs customer focused, dynamic and innovative staff. The company offers services to Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs), corporates, government and individual customers for local and regional travel. The company operates from Harare and Bulawayo. It offers vehicles including Toyota Fortuner, Toyota Coaster Buses, Toyota Hilux Single and Double Cabs, Land Cruisers, and Sedans. The company also offers chauffeuring services.

The awards ceremony was graced by permanent secretary in the Women’s Affairs, Community, Small and Medium Enterprises Development Ministry, Mike Mhike who was standing in for the Minister Sithembiso Nyoni. In the speech read on behalf of Nyoni, Mhike applauded the SME Association of Zimbabwe for successfully reviving the Legends Awards and for advancing the micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) development agenda in the country through implementation of various business development initiatives.

Mhike said the awards not only recognise and honour outstanding SME but also enhance the visibility of the sector’s activities. “The National Development Strategy has recognised the emergence of the MSME sector as key not only in facilitating employment creation, poverty reduction and inclusive growth in Zimbabwe but pivotal in promoting the achievement of manufacturing growth and rural industrialisation,” Mhike said. He also commended the SME association of Zimbabwe for emerging as one of the most vibrant and professional business associations partnering with the ministry in promoting MSME development in Zimbabwe.

The ministry’s key goal is to promote the formalisation, productivity and competitiveness of MSMEs in local, regional and global markets and Mhike acknowledged that the ministry cannot achieve this without participation of private sector organisations, mostly MSME associations.
